As you may have noticed on my Instagram, you’ve seen that I spent some time in Corsica after the track season ended with the Flemish and provincial championships for the masters.
After a few years off the track (still doing some running and quite some consistent power training), with two stomach surgeries in 2013 and 2016 (due to Juvenile Polyposis Syndrome), I decided to get back into full training mode for 100m and 200m sprint. People ask me why I do this, but sprinting is just something I love so much. Don’t let me run long distances, I like to run against myself. One lane, one opponent (myself). I have no control over the other factors, so it’s up to me to run as fast as possible. I was allowed to start training again mid January and I joined my training group in mid March. I’ve been training quite consistently and I was lucky a hamstring injury could heal during my Canada trip in June. I did only one track meeting, just to experience what it feels like again. I was happy with that test, less with my times. On 23 September at the provincial championships masters I got the silver medal both over 100m and 200m (East-Flanders). My times were a bit better (100m) and much better (200m), so I was happy with my performance. Yet a bummer they didn’t give us a medal for the provincial championships (only for Flemish championships). Hurray for this comeback kid!
On Wednesday I travelled to Corsica with my girlfriend and mom. My mom was dreaming to get there and so I took her there. I especially like the interior part of the island. Also nice to see cows, goats and pigs walk around free! Below you can find some pictures of Bonifacio, Iles de Lavezzi, Scandola, Gorges de Restonica, Lac de Melo, Calanques de Piana, Cap Corse, Etang de Biguglia and Cap Corse. Enjoy!
After two weeks of full rest, training starts again tomorrow for the new track season. And plenty of gigs are coming up as well. Exciting times ahead!
